Here are some of our favorite energy saving tips we found on the Pioneer Community Energy and PG&E websites. Follow the links for many more!

  1. Since the biggest portion of most people’s energy use is for heating and cooling, anything you can do to reduce your energy use here will pay off big time:

  • Set your thermostat high (78 F) in summer and a low (68 F) in winter.

  • Rather than heating or cooling your whole house, consider only part of the house.

  • If you have an HVAC, make sure you replace the filters regularly (at least every three months) and make sure all ducts are properly insulated.

  • Make sure your house is properly insulated and sealed. Weatherstripping windows and doors can make a big difference.

  1. Hot water is the second highest energy user in most people’s homes. You can easily reduce your hot water consumption by half if you:

  • Install energy saving shower heads or flow-restricing faucets

  • Take short showers

  • Only run your dishwasher and clothes washer when you have a full load

  • Set the hot water heater at its lowest temperature setting

  1. Vampire loads? Little did you know that all those electronics, even when they are turned off, still use energy. Up to 10% of total energ consumption for many homes!

  • Unplug at night all your computers, phone chargers, TVs, game consoles and printers
